La primera cartilla tzeltal
Description:
Esta cartilla se he elaborado como una modesta aportación a la Campaña Nacional de Alfabetización que realiza el Gobierno Mexicano entre los aborígenes del país. Con tal fin se preparó esta Cartilla Tzeltal, aplicable a los grupos nativos del Estado de Chiapas que hablan la lengua que lleva ese nombre. Su uso durante un cierto tiempo nos demostró la necesidad de modificarla en parte y de ampliarla, para lograr más eficientes resultados.

Description:
El propósito de este sencillo libro de higiene es enseñar a los indígenas tzeltales los elementales conocimientos de higiene. Aunque no son muy extensos, la idea es que las explicaciones y los dibujos les sirvan para introducirlos a unas prácticas sencillas que ellos mismos en su pobreza y aislamiento de la civilización puedan observar para mejorar la salud general de la población tzeltal.

La tercera cartilla tzeltal-español
Description:
Esta cartilla ha sido preparada por el Instituto Lingüístico de Verano y está designada para ayudar a esas personas quienes ya han aprendido a leer en su idioma nativo el tzeltal y puedan así aprender a leer la lengua española. Puesto que muchas de las letras del alfabeto español han sido automáticamente introducidas en las dos anteriores cartillas tzeltales, solamente las diez letras restantes están enseñándose aquí. Se observará que no hay nuevas letras introducidas en las tres primeras páginas. Puesto que todas las palabras contenidas dentro de éstas, constan de letras que se encuentran en el alfabeto tzeltal, el estudiante puede enseguida leer oraciones en español que son simples pero inteligibles. En las siguientes páginas están incluidas letras que se usan en español y como estas están relacionadas con ciertas letras del tzeltal. Grupos de consonantes no encontrados en el tzeltal están también incluidos. La intención de esta cartilla no es solamente enseñar al estudiante a leer en español sino también para darle a conocer varios aspectos de la cultura mexicana y detalles de conocimiento general con los cuales él debe familiarizarse para llegar a ser propiamente íntegro dentro de la sociedad del gran estado de Chiapas y la república de México de la cual es un ciudadano.

Séptima cartilla tojolabal
Description:
En esta cartilla se encuentran incluidos los fonemas conocidos por el alumno sin presentarle ninguno nuevo. Se espera que al empezar a escribir y leer, se vaya introduciendo la ortografía con el uso de las mayúsculas; pues el empleo adelantado tanto de la ortografía como de las mayúsculas pudiera ocasionar alguna confusión en el educando, si no ha aprendido a leer y escribir. Hemos incluido algunos cuentecitos con el fin de que la lectura se le haga al alumno un tanto amena con el vivo propósito de llamarle la atención y que se despierte en el educando el deseo de llevar al cabo su aprendizaje.

Quinta cartilla tojolabal
Description:
Esta quinta cartilla es una continuación de la serie que se viene publicando. Se espera que con este método de enseñanza, tomando del medio ambiente en que actúan los alumnos y basándose en un método completamente natural, las personas adquirirán mayor rendimiento y capacidad. La autora quiere tener un progreso en forma paulatina en la introducción de fonemas, haciendo énfasis en el repaso a medida que el educando asimile en forma definitiva.

Octava cartilla tojolabal
Description:
En esta cartilla se encuentran introducidos nuevos fonemas tojolabales, siendo ésta una continuación de la anterior. En ésta se da mucha importancia al repaso de los fonemas con el fin de hacer el aprendizaje más sólido y más rápido. Como quedó dicho antes, uno de los objetos de esta serie de cartillas es la aceleración de la alfabetización entre los indígenas de la tribu tojolabal, y al mismo tiempo la castellanización de ellos. Como el alfabetizar consiste no solamente en aprender a pronunciar las sílabas sino en entender también la lectura, es sumamente importante que los alumnos entiendan lo que leen. Para los indígenas tojolabales, que son en su mayoría monolingües, el primer paso es posible únicamente en su propio idioma porque ellos todavía no saben español. El segundo paso, la castellanización, sigue después con menos dificultad, porque en el alfabeto tojolabal se usan casi todas las letras del alfabeto español. Por eso el alumno que ya sabe leer en su propio idioma, puede leer también el castellano, aunque sea muchas veces sin entendimiento de lo que lee. Aquí es donde la alfabetización con cartillas bilingües como ésta sirve para la castellanización. El alumno que ya puede leer el tojolabal y el español, puede aprovechar las traducciones en su lengua materna para entender mejor las frases en español. Así el entendimiento del español del alumno va creciendo, y su lengua materna sirve como puente firme para su castellanización

Novena cartilla tojolabal
Description:
Esta novena cartilla contiene dos divisiones: la primera parte introduce los demás fonemas tojolabales, p', ch', ts'; la segunda parte introduce los fonemas españoles que se encuentran en palabras prestadas. Cómo la mayor parte de estos fonemas son escasos en tojolabal, solamente se dedica una página a cada fonema. Los menos comunes están combinados. Se espera que al terminar esta cartilla, el alumno pueda leer con facilidad y con rapidez cualquier lectura en su idioma. Se recomienda que el alumno repase toda la serie, para leer con entendimiento las frases españolas, como son traducidas en su propio idioma. Se viene duplicando una serie de libros sencillos, también bilingües, de temas interesantes para desarrollar su habilidad en la lectura.
